Leo turned the music off, put the headphones away, tried to work — but his head kept bobbing to the beat. The song 'switched platforms', straight to the brain.
Why does a song get 'stuck' in your head?
It's called an 'earworm': a short, repetitive, catchy bit of music that replays in your head even after the sound is off. The brain likes to 'finish' an unresolved tune, so the harder you try to forget it the more it loops. To escape: listen to the whole song, chew gum, or switch to a different tune.
